I have an old freeman loader on my TO20 which I plan to rebuild this winter. I have read all the posts and I still have a question. There is just no way that those front end fittings are going to come off the cylinders. My plan is to cut the tube at the back end, remove what ever stop there is in there at the back of the ram and pull it out the front of the tube. Question: is the stop at the back of the ram bolted on? Will I be able to stick a socket up in there, unbolt the stop and pull the ram out the front? The alternative will be to cut the back of the tube and also the very front of the ram and pull it out the back. Going to weld a collar and bolt on cap on the rear of the tube when the job is done to provide future access. Very rusty so I have no idea what model it is. Any one got the answer? Thanks, Jack

If your freeman loader is like mine when you cut the tube of the cylinder you will see the end of the shaft with a snap ring on it. I never had any trouble taking the gland nut off the end of the cylinder on mine to put in the new packing seal. There is no piston in the cylinder, when the cylinder fills with oil and pressure develops all it does to lift the loader is put pressure on the end of the shaft. The snap ring is all that keeps the shaft from shooting out of the cylinder. Hope this is of some help.

That's good news. I got the caps off and the packing loose with no problem but the only way to replace it is to pull the rams thus the problem. Thanks for the information. Jack
