I would like to check the adjustment of the governor and the throttle on my 52 TO 30-- it seems like I may be lacking a little power. What is the On-The-Farm Service Unit referenced in the shop manual? Has anyone installed a tach permanently on a Ferguson? I got used to having a tach on my 8n, and I would at least like to use one temporarily on the Ferguson to make adjustments. I'd rather not use the other method of jacking and marking a rear wheel. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

The on the farm service unit was a range of equipment that was designed to enable the on the farm fitter to repair the tractor and set it to the standard factory settings easily and quickly. It was not the sort of equipment you would have as a home workshop type thing. Sparex do some tachometers like you mention.

Lance. I've been looked for a small electronic tacho (2" to 2.5"?) and hour meter (similar to the Cessna aircraft tachos), with no luck here in Australia.
I wanted to mount it out of sight under the bonnet to record engine hours, setting PTO speeds for driven implements etc.

The problem I found was that the tachos available all go to 6,000 plus RPM whilst the TEA20 is governed back to approx 2,500 RPM max. The ones I found are near useless at lower RPM.

Ferguson produced a tacho and hour meter for the TEA20 - Tractormeter A-TE-93 (MPH) and A-TE-95 (KPH) but complete units appear to be totally unavailable.

Any thoughts on possible overseas manufacturers/suppliers?

Cancel that - just Googled a combined digital tacho and hour meter that may be perfect for the job! :)

Hmmm... this looks like just what I need. The only thing I would be concerned about is whether you could at all replace that internal battery. That would suck to shell out another 39.99 just because the battery was dead. The tachs I was referring to are usually made by race car gauge manufacturers such as VDO, Autometer, Crane Cams, and others.

I installed one of these tachs from Northern Tools on my TO several years ago. This unit is fast & easy to install. It worked great for about 2 years before the internal battery died. By that time I had pretty much learned to measure my RPMS by ear, so I never replaced it.

Ben, if what you need is a tach to use while making adjustments, most of your better automtive multimeters come with a tachometer feature. My Actron unit has this- go to their website and it lists which models have it. For a permanent tachometer, I see no reason why a common aftermarket add-on tacometer would not work. These are available at auto parts stores and hot rod parts suppliers.
