We are trying to replace a leaking PTO seal on a Ferguson Deluxe 35 (S# SGM 196146). We have worked for 3 days trying to get the seal retainer housing out. This one has a 3 bolt retainer ring unlike what you guys in the forum are talking about a 4-bolt. It looks like it should pull straight out after the retainer is removed. It has threads inside for a cap. Is there a special tool or tip for getting this housing out?
It will turn in the tractor itself but will not come out!
Thanks for any help you can give us.

How do you Drain the fluid out and fill it back up after or during the process of replacing the PTO seal for a TO-35??
Thanks for any help

Deleuxe generally refers to the two-stage clutch and the tractormeter. Not sure I've ever seen a TO-35 which didn't have those, though, so not sure how common the "standard" one was.

If you have a slide hammer or similar, do as greg suggested and use the hole in the end of the PTO shaft to pull it out. Or his method, which is what I did...put something tough like a punch through the hole and then pry against that. Once it starts moving it will come out pretty easily.

Make sure you have the front wheels in a ditch, the rear of the tractor on stands or the transmission empty, you'll be doing an involuntary fluid change if you don't, to the tune of about 9 gallons of oil.

As I mentioned, I think if you have the PTO lever up on the side of the tractor, it will make life easier when it comes time to put it back together. You're not going to hurt anything, I don't think,

So you are pulling the PTO shaft out which pulls the housing with it as it comes? Is that right? I think I have been trying to do the wrong thing by pulling the housing from around the shaft with it still installed!! I thought the shaft might be held in with a keeper pin inside or something.. Thanks BJ

Yes sir.... That's a pic of this tractor. To make sure I'm doing the right thing, You're not pulling on the shaft to pull housing and all out together, are you? I'm not an old tractor buff. I'm just trying to get this baby back up to snuff for my wife's friend, who lost her husband 2 1/2 years ago. It now runs and starts very well. metal is a little rough in places and rubber is fair. She's wanting to sell it. What difference does the DELUXE make over the standard.
Thanks, guys, for helping us before I got rough and broke something!!!!!

Yes, it pulls straight out. I have a TO-35 with the three retaining bolts. It is possuble it is rusted or something. When I pulled mine, it took a prybar with a hard punch through the hole in the end of the pto shaft. They can be stubborn sometimes.

It does pull straight out, yours may be gummed up or rusted in place:

Here's the seal holder:

I seem to vaguely recall that you want to have the PTO lever engaged before you pull this out.
