Front tire questions

Hello everyone. The left front tire of my TO-35 is finally so dry rotted that I can't plug the leaks fast enough and so must be replaced. I have a few questions. First, the rim presently has a tube in it. Is it necessary to always use a tube in tractor/ag tires? The rim appears to be in very good condition and I see no reason to put a tube in it with a new tire unless the inside of the rim was too rusted or pitted to hold air.
Second, does anyone have a favorite brand of tires they recommend, or should I go with whatever the tire place recommends? Is it customary for ag tire customers to purchase their own tires and bring them to the shop to be installed, or do they generally buy them at the place they are installed? The front tire size on my Fergie is 6.00-16. There is a shop nearby which handles mostly ag and off road tires, I'll be paying them a visit sometime after pay day. Thanks!!

Lance:

The tires and rims used on vintage tractors are not tubeless and will not reliably hold air without tubes. I also expect that you will find that your rim has significant rust on the inside when you remove the tire.

Unless you plan to change it yourself, I would advise that you buy the tire from the dealer where you will have it changed.

Though I'm sure that your dealer will mount it regardless of where you buy it, such practice does sometimes annoy such folks.
