I just went to install a new oil filter and am wondering if there is anything to hold the filter up against the top seating washer. There is nothing in the bottom of the canister and the new filter seems to just float in the canister. The old filter was destroyed when I took it out. Any help would be great, Thanks.

Opa. If you get really stuck for the parts contact me as I may know where there is a parted out tractor. However, keep in mind I am in Australia.

third party image

No 9 is the "Element Guide" (a round plate the filter sits on)

No 10 is a spring
No 13 is a washer

No 14 is a seal

If you don't have those components it would be a waste of time installing a filter. I doubt the parts are available new, but you should be able to buy, used or may be easy enough to make.

You should not operate the tractor without a filter.

Thanks a bunch Bob, I knew there had to be more. Wonder how long its been running like this. Just got the tractor, oil looks like gear lube.

I did take an oil filter out of mine long time past and it had a taper to fit snugly. Not able to buy one since.Make sure it is the correct length otherwise it will compress in the taper [from experience, having been given incorrect one] You will need a spring.

I think there should be a sping in the bottom of the can. I'll look in the manual and post here.
