I have a TO20 and need to know where #1 is on the dist. cap. I see the firing order goes counter clockwise and the order is 1,3,4,2. The plug wires were pulled off by one of my cattle, who got in the barn and looks like he was rubbing and knocked them off $%&*$%*@$&*!.

Thanks

Not too difficult.
Pull ALL plugs
rotate engine with starter OR wrench until you feel air being pushed OUT of #1 cylinder (closest to fan?
--you are now on the compression stroke for #1.
Look into timing hole (it may have a round plug)and continue to turn engine the same way until the #7 lines up with the timing mark on block.
(This is actually 7degree before Top Dead Center.
Now pull distributor cap-remember with way the rotor is pointing (this will be toward #1 plug wire location.
Replace cap and locate #1 wire here.
Replace all plugs, hook #1 wire to dist. and plug.
Then proceed C.C.W. all the way around distributor.1-3-4-2.
**While cap and rotor is off, AND engine is stopped at #7, you should notice that the points are JUST starting to open. IF not, THis is a good time to reset timing.
I assume before Ol'Elsy flossed her teeth, the tractor was running fine.
In this case, timing is probably fine.
Mark

Circle J - There was a forum thread here not too long ago that addressed this topic pretty well. I managed to find it and will try and include the link here. If it doesn't work I will try it again a different way. Mike
