As many of you know, I've owned a 1953 TEA20 for over 20 years, now almost restored but the job has been "on hold" whilst I got the Jag back on the road.

My other hobby is my 1966 Jaguar Series 1 E Type 2+2, which I bought six months ago in a "mostly assembled but not running" condition. It has been off the road for around 15 years, undergoing rebuild.

Completed last week, although a few minor jobs still to do. Under went a Road Worthy Certificate Inspection and registered last week, although the special Club number plates won't arrive for a week or two.

Now the Jag is almost finished, it's back to finishing the TEA20 Ferguson...

Not a Fergy question but I know on this forum there is an absolute wealth of excellent mechanical information available on almost any automotive question..... ..

I bought a set of new US made Dayton 15 x 6, 72 spoke wire wheels for my Jaguar E Type, to replace the original 15 x 5 British wire wheels. The original rims had minor rust, two broken spokes and a few other loose spokes.

I am trying to confirm that the correct tire size for the new 15 x 6 rims, is 205 70 R15, which will also give me a similar outer diameter as the original 175/185 x 15 tires - no re calibration of the speedo?

Anyone able to confirm?

I am also looking for recommendations for a reasonably priced tire brand and model that will give a comfortable highway ride and good road handling. I am not looking for a tire rated to the car's maximum speed of almost 150 MPH - I already have a good collection of speed radar camera photos of my everyday car and don't need to add the Jaguar to the Dept of Transport's photo collection - and income!!!
(Maximum open highway speed in Australia is 110 kph / 68 MPH. Speeding fines start around $250 at 10 MPH over the limit, but I can't really afford to lose any more demerit points!)

Any recommendations?

Maybe it is almost a Ferguson thread.....

I was looking for a very close color match in a spray can, to touch up some paint out of sight, on an inner door skin. Checked against dozens of red colors available in cans "off the shelf" and the very, very close match was.....

"Ferguson Red" - in an MF branded spray can!!

Irv. 30 years ago (when I was 33 years old) I would not be able to afford to even sit in an E Type!
I probably still can't afford it and at my age there is probably far more sane and mundane pursuits I should be doing!

Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional. After all the work and expense and now the Jag is registered and on the road - I'm a kid with a new toy!

NICE car!! I love the looks of those. About 30 years ago I had a chance to buy one, a beautiful white 1964 that needed nothing.(if a Jag EVER needs nothing) The year old company I worked for back then (still do) moved to a new location and the owner of the building had one for sale. No one new it was for sale, so I had first chance at it. I sat in it and dreamed about how nice it would be to have, but was 33, had kids and well, that was the end of that. I shoulda took out a loan because if I remember right, it was a good deal. It was gone in no time. :^(

Bob, Awesome!
But it looks like you installed the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car though.
Just kidding!
Really nice!

Pushed it out to almost 100 MPH today. Just sits there, like a train on tracks. Magnificent handling and very direct, responsive steering.

My 1966 Jag XKE / E Type has done only 81,000 miles and unusually, no rust in the body. However, I had to fabricated replacement inner door skin halves. There is no movement in the front sub frame attachments, a usual XKE problem.

The engine is 6 cylinder, double over head cam, seven main bearing, 4,235 cc / 258 cu inch, 265.00 BHP (195 KW) @ 5400.00 RPM - just enough to push the 2464 lbs / 1117.7 kg car to over 140 MPH! You will note my car has triple SU carbies. Jaguars exported to the USA were fitted with twin Stromberg carbies I believe, due to US pollution laws? The majority of all Jag XKEs produced were exported to the USA. The base price new in 1966 was $5,384.

Acceleration, the ride and particularly cornering is nothing short of amazing, particularly considering the car is 42 years old! But at low speed it could do with power steering. I need to check wheel alignment to see if I can reduce steering wheel load.

The V12 engine fitted to later Jaguars is nice, very smooth, but a plumber's nightmare, very expensive to maintain and not as collectible.

I've been pulled up by the Police three times in the past week! On the first occasion they merely wanted to look at the car. On the second occasion yesterday afternoon, two female cops used RBT (Random Breath Testing) as the excuse to look at the car. Last night two cops again used RBT as the excuse to pull me over, by which time I was getting rather annoyed and I asked them "were they short of customers or is it my s e x appeal that makes me attractive?"
(It is the Australia Day long weekend here and the Police have a big RBT exercise going on throughout the State.)

My kids wonder if their 63 year old Dad is suffering a mid life crisis!

All that grunt and only 100kph in most places. Finishing the project would have given you a feeling of great satisfaction, nice baby to have around the house.

Most beautiful car the XKE is. Remember the first one passing me in 1961-62. Did the monocoque need attention on yours? On a salt diet they start to resemble a screen door after while. They were meant to be driven. Have fun.

That is just outstanding. Very nice. The only thing wrong with it is it's probably too low to the ground to do much plowing with. Of course, at 100 MPH it would get the job done in a hurry! Pretty cool car. Jack
