I have several Ford tractors as well as 55 TO35 dlx. My favorite tractor to run in the 35 as it has more HP than the Ford N series as well as the TO series but is the same small highly maneuverable size and comes with Live PTO and Hydraulics. The equivalent HP Fords bring 3-3500 depending on condition, I would think the Ferg should too. I've run a MF50 and I think its basically the same Hp but a bigger heavier tractor. In my book the 35 is the better choice if maneuverability is important.

I have a 1957 TO-35 and a 5 ft. tiller, it pulls it and does a great job.

However, its best to loosen ground first with a plow/disk, makes it eaiser on tractor.

Would I take 5K for mine NO, it might not be worth it on open market, but it is more than worth it to me.

If its a good tractor, just go out and try to fine one for that price, many times you are buying someone else's painted up doped up problems.

If it doesn't work out, let me know, I'd like to check-out the tractor.

You may not be a "Fergy-Man" now, but I bet you change your name IF you but it. Ha Ha

$3000.00 for tractor
and $2000.00 for "new" tiller is reasonable.
If it truly is "brand new" it may not have any lub in the gear box. They are usually shipped without.--just a note so you don't damage the ol' girl.

The price seems top dollar.
I run a 60" King Kutter tiller on my 1955 TO35 just fine. Low Range and 1st gear is actually STILL a little fast. You want the p.t.o. speed
(under seat) on "engine speed"-lets you speed up tines with throttle.
The Deluxe Model is a must for tilling, lets you stop tractor in place allow tines to keep working.
(without shifting into Neutral each time)
I love tilling. I have learned to run my 2 bottom plow through the ground first. (unless already worked in the past)
Its pretty rough on the tiller getting through the first several inches of top soil.
Another tip, tilling with the rotation of the tines is easier on the tiller.
I work mine in this direction until the very last couple of passes. When driving against the tines, in lays down a beautiful layer of soil.
The tractor handles it just fine.

I have seen a pair MF35 delux's go for $5,000 and $7,500.00 at the same auction. Just a farm acution... However, the guy was a restorer and both of these were in show condition with new rubber.

BTW: The Delux means you have the two stage clutch or Live PTO. Specials did not have this feature and would not be suitible for tiller work.

An easy way to tell is to look at the SN plate there are three letters before the number...

The third letter tells the transmission type...
"M" - is live PTO / live lift. (2-stage Clutch) "F" - single stage clutch or no live power.

Since you ID yourself as "not a massey man", if you are new to tractors let us know if you need to understand the difference between live and non-live power and why it is important in this application. Else I'll assume you know.

Jeff

Yes, the low range and first gear on the tractor should handle the tiller in most ground. That tractor has a very low first gear when the tranny is in low range. The 35 Deluxe (two stage clutch with live PTO) is much in demand, but most can be bought for $3,000 or so, maybe a little more if real nice and good rubber. If not restored, probably $3500 is about as high as you normally ever see. I don't know the prices of the tillers. Total package sounds a little high to me unless the tractor is really really nice.

Be sure the minimum PTO ground speed of the tractor is slow enough for the tiller. Many tractors go too fast for the tiller.
