can anyone help me identify an engine in a harry ferguson tractor believed to be a 1948. the serial number is tea297764 the engine block casting number on side of block is sc71086e . i need to know what engine manufacturer it is and what model engine . example to20 z120 continental.

The TEA-20 tractor used two styles of the same engine. Both are Standard Motor Company engines. The main difference is the cylendat bore size. The earlier engine had an 80mm bore diameter and the later a 85mm bore diameter. Based on the serial number yours should be the latter.

little info from my book. only covering,

Petrol engine .part no 57963
80mm bore fitted to TE-A20,TE-C20

Vaporising oil engine,..part 500038
85mm bore fitted to TE-D20, TE-E20

Not saying no other configurations.

According to my book the TEA 297764 is a 1952 model year and it uses the Standard 85mm engine. So unless I missed something I believe you can say you have a 1952 Ferguson TEA 20-85. This unit uses the 85mm Standard engine. Good luck with the Fergie. Richard

Yes Gerald is right TEA used the Standard engine and the TE used the Continental.

TE is probably a Standard engine, like used in Triumph TR3.
