What timing are you setting? It should be 6 o BTDC @400 rpm. The tune up instructions in the Tune-Up Guide to the left says it is TDC but the shop manual says 6 o BTDC. If you are setting it at 6 o BTDC and it is hard to start, I"d suspect the ignition system may be the problem. Check to make sure that you have a FAT, BLUISH-WHITE SPARK. If you don"t know how to do this get back to the forum. If you have the requisite FAT, BLUISH-WHITE SPARK, roughness(misfire) could be caused by improperly gapped plugs, fouled plugs, the wrong plugs (I, and several others on this forum, would recommed Autolite 3116 plugs in your TO-30), worn distributor bushing/shaft, sticking advance mechanism, bad spark plug wires, bad distributor cap, improper carb adjustment, etc.If you don"t have a FAT, BLUISH-WHITE SPARK, then you need to find out why. It"s usually corroded or burned points, improperly set points bad condensor, bad coil or improperly connected coil, faulty key switch, damamged primary wiring, dirty and/or corroded connections, etc. Hope this helps you.
