I am looking at a Ferg. 30 to clean out my low
door sheep barns. I located a great running tractor w/loader. It has a pump mounted on the front to supply hydrolics. The sheet metal is gone
on the nose. I think to make room for the pump.
The tractor looks very rough but runs out great.
The loader almost looks homemade but work good.
It also has two new back tires. What do you think.

These are good, tough old machines. If it runs smooth and does what you want, go for it. Cosmetics mean nothing if it's for work.
The brakes are a weak point.

Tom, I think a complete brake job will fix your weak brakes. Most likely the axle housing grease seal is leaking. A small amount of grease on the shoes will creat a dangerous lack of braking. Once I restored my brakes, incl. the axle seal, I can slide both wheels on concrete. The owner's manual details the whole procedure. It took me several sessions to get everything right though. Good luck! Ray

Really all that matters is, are you satisified with it? The H.Ferguson tractors are well engineered, built to last, and will take lots of mistreatment and abuse re: restoration article on home page. I have seen Fergies worked like they were indestructable. I think with common sense and regard for machinery, your tractor will outlast you.
