Starter been acting up, the battery tested bad, replaced battery, still turned over slow but would start, pulled the starter off tonight found the bronze bushing had pushed out of the housing slid it back in and gave it a light tap to seat it, reinstalled it and it turns over nice and easy fires right up. My service manual does not cover the Lucas 12 volt starter is there a snap ring or retainer or does the bushing just press in. thanks

Andy

It is a press fit but if it is loose then you should use some Loc-tite to hold it in position as it will come out again if you don't stick it in place. Make sure that the parts are really clean before you try to stick it...John

Press fit in the Lucas M35G starter motor.

My parts book lists the bushings in each end but does not mention or show any circlips as a retainer. From the drawing it appears to be just a press fit.
