On my TO 35 I noticed I now have a crack that runs from the edge twards center of the hydraulic lift cover. Just noticed it this spring after getting her out for the first time this year. What could of caused this and would JB weld be used to seal this up? Thanks Terry

This isn't unheard of on these tractors, the usual cause is that the bolts attaching it to the centre housing are not as tight as they should be and therefore are not securing it properly, this means that instead of forming a complete"box" with the centre housing and making it strong, the load is contained within the Top Cover only and that isn't strong enough for any shock loads that occur when you travel with an implement raised or just when it reaches full pressure. You are playing with a lot of pressure here so you do not want to attempt a flimsy repair, it needs to be replaced really, just to be certain. If you must have it welded then make sure that someone who knows what they are doing carries this out and also make sure that it is tightened down properly (45-50 lbs ft)and that it is checked regularly to prevent this happening again. If you need more assistance with the internal linkage, email me....John

Depends on where the crack is and what caused it to happen. You need to find out what"s causing the crack and see if it is propagating. The lift cover is a pretty heavily loaded casting. The loads from the lift arms are reacted through the cover as is the hydraulic cylinder load. (See all the bolts hoding it on.)
I don"t have any direct experience with this problem but if the crack is caused by overloading then JB weld won"t fix it. It may require stop drilling the crack and brazing or welding it by someone who knows what they are doing. The other option is to find a used lift cover.

Thanks Jerry for the response. Actually my intent of the JB weld was to keep out water and dust. It is a very thin crack. Have not had anything heavey on the tractor other then brush chopper and back blade. So not sure what could of caused it. Thanks again.
