Hello every body.
I know it may sound stupid, but I am in search of some good information on how to operate my tractors lift (TEA-20. 80mm)This afternoon I will hopefully finish putting the last bits together. I got my tractor with a split hydralic cylinder and several bits missing. But now it should be ready. I realize that I need to engage the PTO. And when I move the lever forward the lift lowers. When you raise the lever the lift should start to raise. That is basically what my owners manual says. But is that it? Is that really all you should know to operate the lift?
I am sure that there is a lot of tips and tricks, that would be good to know.
Please let me know anything about this.

Doc

If Telstra is your ISP, you may not be able to email Zane as he has an AOL email address. It appears Telstra block AOL due to excessive Spam.

I can only email Zane via my Yahoo email account.

I bought a "Zane Thang" from Zane Sherman a couple of years ago. Now US$112.00 including postage from the US to Australia.
Very useful when slashing etc.

Zane posts in here occasionally or you can contact him via his WEB SITE.

Zane also sells a live hydraulics modification for the Ford and Fergy tractors.

Bob (Aust),
Do you have a position controller?
If so where in Oz did you get it?

The hydraulics have "up" or lift pressure only. "Down" pressure is provided by gravity. For example, if using a post hole borer, the hydraulics will lift the implement, but not provide any down pressure except the weight of the attachment.

The lever lifts and lowers as you have found out, it depends on just what you are doing, it will only control automatically, anything that runs in the ground, as this creates a pushing load on the Top Link and it is this that causes the Tractor to control the depth. If the implement you are attempting to use does not run in the ground it will have no pushing load on the Top Link so it will not control any differently to what you have already found out. We really need to know just what you are attempting to do to give more positive information. If you are trying to use a mower/ Bush-Hog then as George has said you really need a Zane-Thang, this will allow your hydraulics to hold the height of the implement anywhere above ground level, in relation to where you put the lever in the Quadrant....John

Klaus, good to hear your TEA is about ready for action. You have the basic lift operation down. The ingenuity of the Ferguson lift is that it has the capability to self regulate the drag, or load on your tractor while pulling a plow, or other ground implement, and will self raise/lower while you are pulling... so that you don't have to keep adjusting the lift level and keep you from flipping your tractor backwards.
That feature does not do you much good though if you are using the lift to maintain a specific height, like when grading with a back blade, or using a carry-all etc. If that is the sort of work you expect to do, I recommend you buy or make a position control device to attach to your lift handle to maintain the lift height for you. Without a position controller you will find it quite difficult to maintain a fixed height other than full up, or full down. Do a quick search on this site for a position controller, several guys have made their own and have had plans posted before. You can also buy a ready-made position controller from a regular post-er on the N forum named Zane, he calls it the Zane Thang, works great, I've got one.

George
