Just curious , do I need a lead additive for my To30? My neighbor who restores old tractors says that I do , but I don't know. do these continental engines have hardened valve seats or will running unleaded gas cause seat problems. Also my data plate in AWOL is there any way of determining the build year of this unit. My best guess is it is a 53 or 54.Thanks for any help on these questions.

My family has 8 old tractors between us and we run unleaded pump gas in all them. We have had most of them for their whole lives and have never had a problem. They are used at least twice a week to do real work. I feel you are safe using unleaded.

Big discussion issue !! I have been using old (1913-1960's)motors for about 40 years and this question always comes up. Lead was added to help prevent pinging, knocking as engines got higher compression ratios, also higher RPMS caused valves to wack hard and faster causing seat wear. These tractor engines are not high enough in compression or fast enough revving to worry about the lead. Since lead went away, I know of no one that has had any problems using no lead in older, slower engines.

I guarrentee some one will disagree, but in my experience and that of many many others in the old car field, we say don't worry about it.

Now comes the opposing point of views ..... ..... ..
