Hello out there tractor fans! I'm still trying to get my TO20 to run for any length of time. I've done a complete rebuild on the engine, starter and carb. It starts right up on the first crank and runs like a champ for about 15 minutes, then it revs a couple of times and quits. It will start up again and run for a few seconds and quit again. Could this be a bad coil or condenser? Any info would help. Thanks, Alan

Thanks to everybody for the help. Yesterday, I went to the local Fergie place and invested $17.00 in a new coil just to see if that would help. Installed it and started the old girl. Ran like a champ for quite a while without a miss. Today I'm going to see if it will run for any length of time. If so, I'm thinking maybe I'm not as dumb as I (and my wife) thought. I'll keep you all up to date. Alan

Alan, Does the tractor run for a longer time after it has cooled? Is the gas line routed near a heat source that could cause vapor lock? I once had a small piece of gasket in a carb I rebuilt on an outboard. It would do the same thing
intermititly. Drove me nuts! I still have the piece in a baby jar as a momento. I look at it when I have a bad day and then I feel better. Probly nothing to do with you but wanted to let you know you ain't alone.
Good luck and keep us posted,
Joe

Alan: Hi. I agree with others that it seems like a fuel problem. Have you observed your fuel bowl around the time that the engine starts to sputter? Does it stay full or does it go to empty around this time? My suggestion is to remove the fuel shut off valve and line from the tank and carb. Clean all thoroughly. Check the line for varnish deposits and check the inlet screen as well as flush the tank out--there may be deposits in the bottom of the tank. If there have been deposits getting to your rebuilt carb, it too may have to be cleaned. These procedures may take some time, but are all simple and cheap. If its not the fuel system then the coil, a faulty condenser, or some electrical short circuit (have you checked the coil lead wire)could be the culprit. Keep us posted, David

Yes it could be the coil but sounds more like a fuel issue. Check screen in tank, also at elbow where it enters the carb. If you have a coil to try that would be good. regards'
