The oil pressure gage on my TO30 reads from 10 to 12 psi at idle and at full throttle.The service manual says that it should read 20-30 psi at 2200 rpm and 15 psi minimum at idle.What can I do to check the gage, and if the gage is correct, is the current pressure readings on the engine a bad sign of things to come.Thanks, Milton K.

Our TO-30 had 3-5 psi wide open and 0 at idle. Was that way for years. Finally would give a light bearing knock at idle.

Plasti gauge the bearing clearance and turn in new inserts if it bothers you. Other wise wait for the bearing to knock and overhaul the whole outfit. These engines don't really need a lotta oil.

By the way ours was used for chasing wagons, mowing hay, and blowing silage (wide open) for hours on end. The exhaust manifold would be red hot at night.

First, what weight oil is in the tractor? Your manual recommends regular 30w above 50deg.F etc. Multi-weight oil will cause your complaint also. Remember the oil gauge is not accurately calabrated,but does reflect the pressure change you quote. This change suggests bearing wear, and is no cause for alarm as long as there is no loss of all pressure. You may determine bearing wear by removing the pan and checking a main bearing clearance with plasti-gauge. The increase from the new specs. will give you an idea of wear in all main bearings. That's my thoughts, and the way I'd approach it.

I am using sae heavy duty 30 wt oil.Haven't noticed any loss of power.She still pulls good,and runs smooth.The old gal has'nt been overhauled in about 30 years.Do you think adding an oil additive like "Restore"would by me a little time before having to rebuild the engine?

I was concerned about oil pressure in my TO-30 which went to 0 at idle and about 10 at half throttle. Looked at oil pump and it wasabout to fall apart. Put in a new pump and relief valve and pressure is now 10lbs at idle and 20+ at high throttle. Feel much better. I use 30 wt oil. Brg wear is evident but not to worry for a long time.

I would'nt use additives yet. The oil pressure is adequate for proper lubrication. As I said, the gauge is not a precision instrument it may be off that much. You might try a different gauge temporarily to verify the pressures, yours may be stopped up with sludge enough to read low. Another possibility is the relief valve in the pump, if it is bad or does'nt close completely because of foreign material, that will give low readings.
