Howdy all,

I am new to this forum but normally hang out on the N series board. I have the opportunity to purchase (have not seen this yet) a TO-35, (year unkown at the moment), with a Continential Diesel engine, and a Hi Low. Rubber is probably fair, but sheetmetal is all there, what ever that means. I have been told that the #3 piston is stuck but there are no cracks in the block. Also told its a 33 or possible a 37 hp, 6 speed, I plan on looking at this tomorrow, its a good drive, but am wondering if it sounds like a good deal? Thanks in advance - again I know nothing about Ferguson but hoping to expand my tractor horizons.

I have a Ferguson TO30 and a Ferguson TO35 Deluxe, but I have not heard of a Continental Diesel version. Maybe I am just not aware, but I thought all the Continental engines on the 35 were gas, and you had to go to the Perkins engine to get a diesel. Perhaps someone can set me straight on that. Second, if it is a Continental gas, it probably is more like 33 hp, not 37. Those are very nice tractors. Mine is my workhorse. They have two stage clutch, six forward gears, and are very easy to get parts for. NAPA carries tuneup parts, for example. However, the Continental engine is notorious for having cracked blocks, which can usually be repaired, I might add. Finding a new block is essentially impossible. A stuck piston likely means an overhaul. A professional overhaul might run around $1400 or so. I'd replace the clutch while it was down. This model tractor, with a professional engine overhaul and good hydraulics and good rear tires might be worth $3500 + in my area (VA). So at $1000, you should be ok, ... depending....

I think this is going to be a perkins or a standard engine. if it's a 4 cyl. it's a standard. they are fairly expensive to rebuild and are hard starters. very tough thou mine had over 40 k hours and original crank.
