I have a few questions about external hydraulic pumps in general. Do they work OK? Are there any gotchas that I should be aware of when selecting one? Can we get them sized for our small pto shaft or do we need to use an adaptor? Do they usually come with the necessary piping connections and valves or do we sort of put together our own rig? If we put together our own rig what is required? Are there sizes that I should be aware of?

I'm very much interested in using a 3pt hitch log splitter on my TO-30.

Do any of you guys have experience with this stuff? If so some advice would be greatly appreciated. Do any of you have any of this stuff for sale?

Thanks, Boogity in OH

The PTO pumps work ok. You have to get the plumbing and valve seperate. Why would you want the log splitter on your tractor. You can get a splitter that has every thing ready to use and you can use it free standing. Then you can use your tractor with a cart or wagon to haul the wood. If you watch the classifieds you might find a good used log splitter that hasn't seen much use. Sometimes when people find how much work cutting and splitting firewood is they give up on it. And remember if you have some trees on your property that are big enough you would have to split them they may be worth a lot more for saw timber than firewood. A 14 inch Cherry or Oak tree can be worth more than $200.00 depending on the grade.

I just installed a 3 point splitter on my MF 35. I paid 499.00 from Tractor Supply and it works fine. It is a little slow with a cycle time of 15 - 17 seconds for a 24 inch Oak log. The other option was to purchase a tow behind splitter for 1000 & worry about the 5 horse Briggs or Honda engine blowing up or even worse someone kicking the barn door in and towing it away.I have a Ford 4500 TLB with a 28 Gallon per minute flow rate but I'm not in that big of a rush.
