I just completed a 12V conversion on my 20.
I used a Delco 10SI alternator and a 12v coil that doesn't require a resistor both from NAPA.
The wire and terminal ends etc came from a variety of places. The wide belt pulley I bought from Genesee Products. I've read that the pulley from the generator will fit but mine was broken.
I built the alternator bracket myself. The reason for this is that the bought ones I found were all designed to bolt to the block. On my engine those holes don't exist and the generator mounted through a boss on the block and a strap that was sandwiched between the front end saddle and the block.
I would recommend that you spend some time looking around Genesse's web site and at the articles and links there. You may also want to compare buying from them as opposed to going the way I did. You can find a link to their site in the Parts Suppliers section of this site.

Neal- What did you do for a starter? I have an old TE-20 that is missing the starter and would like to locate an original 6V or go the 12V conversion route if that looks like a better bet.

I am looking for original type wire with the cotton insulation jacket. Anybody know where this stuff can be found?
