Gasket for PTO shaft on TO30

I am about to remove PTO shaft from TO30 so that I can pull remains of mangled adapter off of it. The repair manual is still on order so I have a few questions before starting.

Is there a gasket behind it that I should be replacing ?

I searched through advertisers on this site and can't find any info.

Also, I am thinking about installing a 1 3/8 inch shaft to replace 1 1/8 that is there now so that I don't have to use an adapter. Any suggestions on where I may be able to find one ?

Thank you in advance for all the help. I learned a ton from this site.

Ark.

I bought a 1 3/8 shaft from my MF dealer in Washington, Missouri, for about $120. This included the bearing and attachment plate and gasket, too. They didn't have the original size in stock, so I got this one. Then I had to get an overrunning clutch for it. Since you can get these clutches with either 1 1/8 or 1 3/8 input splines and 1 3/8 output shaft, it really doesn't matter much which shaft you get. I got mine at a local farm store, but the MF dealer says they break all the time. Well, I've got a lot of hours on this one, and so far so good!

I replaced the old 1 1/8" pto shaft on my TO-20 with the 1 3/8" and have never been sorry. The shaft I bought came with the bearing, seal, and housing all assembled. All I had to do was unbolt the old one and slide the new one in, with a new gasket of course. Park the front wheels in a ditch so the oil don't run out when you pull the shaft. Then, like everyone says, get an ORC if you are going to bushhog. Ain't old tractors fun?

I'm confused about "adaptor" which I assume is to step up to 1 3/8, right? It should be totally on outside of housing, so hard to imagine why you need to remove the shaft. Anyway, assuming you do, there is a seal, yes. Also Stevens, Coushatta (sp?), LA sells both size PTO shafts, for about $100 or so. If you are going to do any bush hogging, you will need an override clutch (ORC), and these come in various shaft sizes, e.g., 1 1/8 female to 1 3/8 male which in effect adapts the size as well as providing ORC capability, and there is no appreciable price difference regarding the ORC size options. Just my thoughts, but, as I said, I am a little confused on your situation.

The front part of the adaptor was munched and twisted off when I hit a rock with a bush hog. What's left of the adaptor is wedged on PTO shaft and is inside the flange that is part of the housing for the shaft.

I tried cutting it with a Dremel so I could split it but couldn't reach far enough inside the flange to do it.

Thank you for the pointer to the source of parts. I'll contact them.
