Hi I have a Tea-20 85 and the transmission dipstick handle broke off and the dipstick fell inside. Do you think it would do anything by useing the tractor how it is until i get it fixed?
thanks,
G

I don't understand the responses - you can easily drop the pan, fish out the piece, and put it back in less than an hour, probably half an hour. Why take a risk when this is so simple?

the only reason's for not doing that is we have nothing to put the old oil in and we have no garage just wet muddy field, plus we have to use the tractor all the time.

You can remove the round plate where the dipstick goes, and reach in and try to get the piece out with your hand. My bet is you'll be able to do it without much trouble at all. The level of the oil is supposed to be just below that round plate, so you won't lose much, if any.

I doubt it will hurt anything. I found one inside a TO30 once and it was not causing any trouble.

I would try to fish the dip stick out with a magnet. There are magnets about the dia. of a dime that will pick up a hammer.

If you can't empty the oil, how do you change it? But in response, put a heavy duty magnet to the left side of the oil pan and hopefully your dipstick will "travel" to the magnet until you can properly retrieve it.
