I have just been given a H. Furgusion tractor that my wifes father had, but it had no battery and no manual. So how do I hook up a battery (postive ground or negitive ground) and how can I convert it over to a 12 volt system? Any help will be grateful! Gene

P.S. No brake!

Maybe it's already a 12 v system. They started out making 6 v, and somewhere along the line (1951?) switched to 12.
Try looking on the starter and generator; some of them have 6v or 12v written on them.
Got a serial number? If it's a TEA20-something I can tell you the serial number where they switched to 12v. Both my 52s are 12v systems.
Jim

Just put the 6 volt battery in and try it out. You probably won't need to convert it. Most people convert them because they heard of someone else doing it. Not too many people have a good reason for doing it, but they thought they better hop on the bandwagon too.

The system is positive ground. If you properly maintain the 6V system it will perform just as well as a 12V system, and you won't have to buy a conversion kit, change lighting etc. When you buy cables, buy 6V cables, the small 6ga cables used on 12V will not carry adequate ampherage. My TO30 is all original and has started at -20F without assistance. 6V batteries like all the electrical componets are readily available.

Hello Gene,

I just got done converting my Ferguson. Go to the link at the left for suppliers. Genessee has info on how to convert with inexpensive parts.

Good luck,
Tim in NC
