Hi
The ser# plate should be on the steering wheel post blue plate with silver writting. If not an easy way to tell if its a To or a Te is the transmission cover (top where the shifting lever is mounted)is one piece with the steering box this would be a Te. A To these two are seperate email me at jd3155@hotmail.com I have books that list ser numbers and dates of production.

Andrew, it you can ascertain that your engine is a Continental and it has the SN plate, log onto the site below, send them an e-mail message with the engine SN (including prefix)and ask Jerry to tell you what year and month the engine was built and shipped to Ferguson. He can tell you as he has all of the old Continental engine specs and production information.

Good luck.

Paul

Main serial number is on plate on dash, held on with rivets. Engine number is on block and begins with "Z120...". Use main serial to look up year made (link at left).

Rats!
I haven't got a plate on the dash! Assuming that the engine is original, is there any other way to determine the year made? Also, behind the carby, there is a "85" does this mean the engine is the "bored out" 85 mm type?

If it's got a Standard engine the engine serial number is stamped on the block on a flat area just below the head gasket, and just to the right of the coil. It will be faint and possibly covered in grunge but if you clean it off and look at just the right angle you'll be able to see it.
They just went from 80 mm to 85 mm at a certain serial number; the two were not available at the same time. I might have the (engine) serial number where they changed over.
Let us know what you find. Regards,
Jim

The Continental Z120 engine had a large cover in the bottom of the oil pan that housed the oil filer. It also had a model, serial plate on the left side of the block. To tell the Std. Motor Co. 80 and 85 enginges apart. I believe one
had the water pump attached to the head and the other to the block. I have a early TO 20 with out a dash serial plate also. Mine has # 2651 stamped into the hyd. pump in a semi circle around the plug that the muffler makes it hard to see.

I think there is a way to date it based on engine number, but I haven't done that. Others may know. You might ask a MF dealer on that. Does it have a number on the block that starts with "Z120..."? I'm not familiar with "85" designation. You sure this is a TO, and not a TE tractor? Again, tell us what the engine number is and maybe we can help more. Sorry I'm not more help.
