In reading between the two sites N Board and the Ferguson Board I have noticed that there isn't many posting with breakdowns in the Ferguson site as in the N Board. Is that cause the Fergusons were stronger or is it that more people use the N Board for there problems. I have leared about alot of things to watch out for on the N site like second gear blowouts with the Brush Hog, lift related problems, bent PTO Shafts, transmissions locking up ect. Why is this kind of stuff not on the Ferguson site very often? No color wars just curious why. They are prety close to the same type of working range, size, HP and hydralic system . Mark H.

OK don't start arguing, just get yourself (for probably less money) a 6 or 800 series Ford, with a 5 spd. live hydraulics and be happy.

I would but I got only $900.00 invested in mine is the 6 or 800 Ford in that price range? I was going to try to wear this one out first. While having fun doing it. Live hydralics would be nice! Mark H.

Ray; Thanks for the tip! I read it and I think I understand now why the two are the way they are. I hate to start anything but I think the Ferguson is a Great Tractor of its time for the HP and size it is hard to beat. At least that's my opinion and we all are intitled to one. Mark H.

Ford made the 9n & 2n, Ferguson had the marketing and service rights. With the Ford-Ferguson split came the 8n and Ford retaining all rights. The TE & TO20's were made in England before the split, the TO30 & 35's were made in Detroit after. There are a heck of a lot more N's in this country and alot more Fergies outside the US. They all had the same 'parents' and as you know remain great little toys for the big kids of the world (ask your wives). Here the sheer numbers add up to a busier N board but it pays to keep up with both. Have Fun

I think there are a lot more fords out there because at that time ford had more dealers and ford had learned mass marketing. Ferguson was just a guy with an idea. Just lots more fords than fergusons sold.

My take is that there are just probably more Ns out there . I bet that I have seen 10 Ns for every Fergie that I see around here .

I have a '47 2N and a TO-30 of unknown vintage ( no serial # tag ) so I watch both boards to learn more about my tractors . There is a lot more activity on the N board than here . Now I know that both tractors have their own sets of problems , ( Fergies with cracked blocks , Fords with the probs. you mentioned ) , but so far I have been lucky and have not had any major problems with either of my "babies" .

I Love my Ford ( Grandpa had one ) but I have to admit that I like my TO-30 more than my Ford .

I bought a John Deere 40 and am going to pick it up on Saturday so I will see what is going on on th JD board also .

Thanks, I like my Ferguson a lot. I got to use a 8N for a while and the guy who owned it just drove it and did not take very good care of it but it held up!! My Ferguson has more power but the 8N was a flathead and mine is overhead not fair. Both were good tractors! It seems the Ferguson site is a lttle slower for posting and I seem to sell alot of 8N, 9N parts but not so much the Ferguson ones. Ebay has lots of N parts but hardly any for the Ferguson. Must have been alot of Ns Made comparied to Fergys. Mark H.

Mark,
Like you, I spend time on both boards and as mentioned, both tractors have their own inherent problems. For example, I don't believe the fergies have that 2nd gear bush hogging problems so prevalent with the N's. Howsomever, My Fergie seems to have the dreaded cracked block that it's so known for, which brings me to my question for you.. Ya got any Z129 blocks for sale?
Please let me know.

Rick;

We have had a TO-30 here since 1952 and never had a cracked block prolem with it.

Cracked blocks could be caused by a not strong enough antifreeze solution or from abuse. Pulling engine too hard and overheating engine. We work our tractors at a steady pace but do not run them hard or overload them.
