I had mentioned in an earlier post that something is draining my battery. I ran an electric meter throughout the system and could only find what seemed to be a short in the key switch. It had .01 volts going through it when the switch was off. In 15 or 20 minutes the battery went from 7.35 volts to 7 volts. Could replacing the switch key fix my problem? The battery is drained overnight unless I disconnect the postive cable. Is a .01 volt drain enough to do that?

Thanks!

Rich

I had the same problem with my TO-30. It would still happen even if the wire between the battery an the coil was disconnected/opened. I asked a friend who has a barn full of restored tractors about it. He said it is a common problem (not just TO's) and suggested interupting the wire from the battery to the alternator with a toggle switch. Apparently the battery can drain down through some alternator circuits. I installed a toggle in the circuit and have not had to take the battery cables off since.

I assume the generator checked out....Your lights should not work if the key is off. I would isolate the wires from the Ign switch and watch the results.Logically if you isolate the ign,and problem, does not occur, the problem is the switch. If the problem does occur when the wires to the switch is removed the problem is before the switch.

I think you found the answer to your problem in your switch. You could undo the wire to the coil and leave your battery connected over night, see what happens. If it still draws batt. down look at your light switch.
