This question has been asked before and I am asking it again. The oil filter on a TO 20 is located inside the oil pan on a shaft surounded by a screen. There are supposed to be spacer washers and a spring that takes up the space on the shaft and hold pressure against the filter holding it in a stationary position. Where does the spring and washers go above the filter on the shaft or below the filter. Thanks Bill H.

Bill,
"Quote" from my Ferguson dealer shop manual (when replacing the filter cover, be sure the spring is replaced between the stop on the oil standpipe and the oil strainer cover.

Now that would sound to me like it goes on the bottom of the filter?

Pete, John, I hope that it means that it goes at the bottom of the oil filter between the oil pan cover and filter. I saw that question posed a week or so back without a definitive answer. I got to thinking that maybe I had been doing it wrong since 1966 when I got that old tractor. Anyway thanks for your confirmation. Bill H.

Bill,
That is how it is printed in my manual which by the way you can purchase from Faxon Literature 800-458-2734 it is an exact reprint of Ferguson Dealer Shop Manual covers TE-20 TO-20 & TO30 Tractors. These are shop manuals that were prepared by Ferguson Service Department of that time period 187 pages and lots of pictures. This company 'Faxon' specializes in reprints for tractors & cars of original factory manuals, even the special tools in the pictures are of that 40's and 50's time period. Pete
