I'm looking at adding a loader to my 3000. What's the experience with an after-market loader on the 3000? From the 3000 specs it looks like the built in hydraulics have a kinda low flow rate, but am I just looking at it wrong? Does it work well to put the loader adapter plate on and use a valve which comes with the loader? Anybody built a CADPLANS (1210?)loader for a machine like this? Any pointers on what works well or poorly would certianly be appreciated before I take the plunge. Thanks in advance.

All the replies so far are on the money but it depends on your desire. I have a 660 with a ford 68 standard loader on it. It's a single action lift with a dump bucket. The bucket is about 3ft wide and flares out to 6. It handles all the basics. I don't have power steering so tight turns are out of the question. I am in the process of adapting a front pump, which would make it all around more versatile. It is slow and not very subtle. I love this thing and that's the fun of it.
good luck

Tom,
I'm in agreement with both Oak and Bern. I've got a '66 3000 and an old Bush Hog trip bucket loader(forgot the model number right off hand). I run it off the tractor hydraulics and yes, it's EXTREMLY slow(luckily, I'm never in that much of a hurry, in fact, I hardly ever use it). I also have no power steering and trust me, if you don't have power steering, and you plan on using it as a loader tractor, then get power steering, otherwise, you'll been in for a long day. It will make a man out of you quick, or in my case, put you in a rest home, and I'm still pretty young. Hope this helps some. Casey

Tom, I agree with Bern. I have a 3000 with power steering, (I would hate to drive this thing without power steering) with a Ford 730 HD loader (came with the tractor) with front mount pump. The reservoir for this loader is in the loader frame.

By all rights this loader is too big for the tractor and I have been warned by more than one, including Bern, that I would probably break the tractor before breaking the loader if not careful. I use it with this in mind. Since I don’t use it for construction, have only a 6’ bucket, and use it for clean up around 5 acres I’m OK with it.

Hope this helps.

First of all, you would not be happy with the operating speed of any loader should you choose to tap into the tractor hydraulics. It would be agonizingly slow. Best bet on a loader oil supply would be either a front mount engine pump, or a PTO pump. Both would require a seperate reservoir. You could use the tractor rear axle as a reservoir, however, coming up with suitable inlet and return ports would be likely not worth the trouble.

Any loader valve that comes with the loader itself should be adequate for your operation unless you plan on running a pump larger than say 25 GPM (don't go that big!).

My biggest concern would be the tractor itself. A 3000 front axle and steering is far from heavy duty, and I wouldn't even consider a loader on this tractor if it was not equipped with power steering. Even then, I don't think you would be real happy with it, especially if the loader and bucket were pretty good size.
