I have a Ford 4000 HD Industrial backhoe, circa 1965. My problem has been that the hoe is extremely weak, there is no power to dig, but the front loader seems to have pretty decent lifting power even at a low rpm. So I beleive the hydraulic pump is good. It is a gear pump, not a piston. I have had this machine for 20 years. It use to dig pretty well, over the years it just weaker and weaker. Does anybody have any ideas as
to why there is no power in the hydraulics in the hoe. How do I go about diagnosing the problem.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Tony

Are you sure the backhoe and loader are running off the same hydraulic pump? Trace the hydraulic lines and find out.

Yep. There is only one pump. I think the hoe is a 712 or 713. The main boom is extremely weak, especially once the hydraulic oil warms up. It barely picks its own weight up when fully extended
with no load. My only thought is maybe the hyd. cylinder is bad, maybe it needs to be repacked??
I don't know anything about them.

Does anybody know if there is a manual for the hoe??.

Thanks Anthony
