I have a New Holland 282 bailer and would like to
know haw much horse power it requires from the PTO.
Factory rating, etc... One thing I do know it is
more than a good running 8N can put out.
Thanks for any info. Curt

I don't have a 282 but do run a 269 and a 273 which were very similar. The 269 has a 2 cyl Wisconson motor that can't be over 20 HP and the 273 has a 4 cyl that might be 30 HP. They can easily be overloaded with hay, but will do a lot if you take it easy. I use my 8N with either a baler, but they do have the separate baler motor. I also ran a very similar pto baler for years with a Major Diesel and it can't be any more than 50 HP. Happy haying!

Looking for a repair manual for a Wisconson baler motor. It is a 2 cylinder gass engine. serial number 4172466, spec number 289760, serial# 3085896 spec # 138122. THD.

: Curt: in the late 60's, I and my brother rode a stooker behind a 282 for about a week. The tractor was a John Deere 4020. It blew smoke all day, every day and we worked our guts out. a 282 will take up to 110 horse easy and bale everything you can shove into it. Tom
