I RECIENTLY PURCHASED A FORD TRACTOR (866 HOURS)THAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD, IS A 1964 2000 SERIES TRACTOR. I BELIEVE THAT IT IS AN INDUSTRIAL MODEL LGC THAT HAS THE SELECT-O-SPEED TRANSMISSION. THE TRACTOR IS BLUE IN COLOR WITH YELLOW PAINT SHOWING
THROUGH. THE TRACTOR HAS A SERIES OF NUMBERS STAMPED ON IT THAT READ: 03 F96 73266 21315
WHAT DO THESE NUMBERS MEAN? IT HAS A FRONT LOADER ON IT WITH THE MODEL NUMBER, 19-97. ARE THERE OWNERS MANUALS THAT DEAL WITH THE 2000 SERIES TRACTOR ONLY, AND WHERE WOULD A PERSON FIND ONE?
AM I CORRECT ON ALL OF MY INFORMATION? WHAT ELSE CAN ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT THIS TRACTOR?

Is it a four cylinder? If it is it is the same tractor as the 601.All they did was change the color. If it is indeed industrial it will not have a split front axle that can be widened. It will be fixed in width. If not and industrial it is just a farm tractor.
The selecto speed is ideal for using pto exipment such as a hay baler etc. It is a pain the rear trying to use a front end loader. The clutch(inching pedal) cannot be feathered like a regular clutch can be. Sort of jerky.
The transmission can be expensive to repair and mechanics that know how to repair are becoming extinct. I happen to be one who is almost extinct myself.

THANKS ZANE, PLEASE HANG AROUND FOR A WHILE. YOUR INFORMATION HELPED, AVOID EXTINCTION. MY TRACTOR IS A 4 CYLINDER AND IT DOES HAVE A SPLIT FRONT AXLE. I DO HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION. WHERE DO YOU CHECK AND FILL THE TRANSMISSION FLUID?

The SOS trans checks and adds oil through the same plug. It should be a 1/2 (or maybe 3/4?) inch pipe plug fairly low down on the case, which side I do not recall. It's only about 6 inches or so up from the bottom. Oil level should be up to the bottom of this hole. Oil is added through this hole so as not to overfill.

Don't worry about not having someone to work on this trans if it gives you trouble down the road. It's not rocket science.

Wasn't the Industrial model designated "1801"?
