My neighbor has a burnt 860 Ford tractor that i would like to try and buy for my next project or for parts for our 960 Ford. It was not the tractor that caught fire but the garage where it was kept. Right before the fire it had had a complete overhaul and restoration, but the gas tank still leaked so the guy took the tank off and emptyed the gas into some five gallon buckets, well it turns out he had a gas furnace and that all the doors on the garage were shut. Well he forgot something and went into the house to get it and when he opened the door, BOOM! No more garage no more restored tractor!

If the tractor had a complete restoration, rebuilt engine an all AND the engine came through ok, then it seems to me the unit might be worth $1000 and more for the engine alone. Plus consider value of trans, rear and lift -- and sheet metal.

If you don't know the status of the components then 1/2 price seems reasonable for the risk you'd take with the unknowns. Can't imagine you couldn't salvage $500 + in parts.

My grandfather had an 8n that caught fire. The only way they could put out the fire was to push it into the canal with a truck. They then drug it out, fixed it up and used it another 20 years. There is another 860 for sale in the classifieds. It is advertised as a parts tractor (non running).

I wouldn't pay more than a few hundred for it. Tractors in fires sometimes do quite well especially if they were full of coolant. A short time ago I was involved with a friend of mine fixing up an NAA that was in a barn fire. The rubber was burned off as well as the paint. The sheet metal was in good shape and the engine was fine. There are certainly lots of parts that need to be replaced though. I'd buy another one if it was the right deal.

And this neighbor of yours is still around to sell it to you?
