I saw a Ford tractor the other day for sale that is settup like a Farmall. It is a high tractor with the engine offset to the left. It has 3pt hitch and a mid lift using a cylinder in the front. The hood looks like a 600 and the side said 601 Workmaster but the dealer said it was a 5 someting that had the wrong decals on it. How does it compare to 8Ns and 600s? Does it have live lift? Live PTO? How good were they? Thanks for your input.

Chris

Man, that's a 500-series offset Ford. Production of the 500-series started in 1958. The 500-series Ford tractor is THE most collectable "Gray Line" Ford tractor. From what I have read, Ford did not produce many in the 500-series because they had a tendency to roll over. IF it is one of the early 500's it is worth a bit to the right person.

The 500-series was similar to the 701-series Ford as far a engine and trans. The 500-series included the 541, 541D, 541L, 541-4, 541-4D, and 541-4L.
