My dad bought his new in 78 and just rebuilt the engine about 2 years ago. It was hard to find the parts because they didn’t make many of that tractor. He found a services manual at a New Holland dealer (that was a Ford dealer then) and got a copy of the one they had. His is a 2-wheel drive with a 770-end loader on it. He also has a Woods Brothers 72” mower and a rototiller as well.

Ross:I to need info on the 1600 ford.I bough my 1600 in 2001 used $1200, 1200 hrs on meater. I had to fix steeering shaft and control arm $800.00, breaks $140.00.Used parts are hard to find. 1. HP 23, 2. Anything can be maked to fit. 3.77,78,79 4.Running $1200 I paid to $5500.00 I have seen on INet all over the US. Ross all I can say is they are high dollar to fix, but so is everything. But what a blast to crank her up and let her work. "MARION"
Hay Tom I could use a copy of that 1600 manual if you don't mind. (Jack Haney 5421 Gibson Rd. Vicksburg Ms. 39180)

I own a 1978 model. I'm looking for a wiring diagram. I have a short some where and it's draining my battery when it's shut off. Also would like to know where you can find a front end loader for one of these babies. thanks! 537-631-3922. Could also use a service manual with wiring schematics.

I don't know if you are still checking this posting, but I may be able to help a little. I tried your phone #, but its not working.
I picked up a service manual from my local Ford/New Holland Dealer for about $23. It has all the info in it you are asking for. It also shows how to rebuild the tractor. Very useful for these older ones.
I bought mine at auction 5 years ago for $4250, and I've just recently ordered a Westendorf TA-55 loader for it. I did some checking around, and Westendorf and the original Ford 770 loaders are the only ones that have the proper mounting.
I absolutely love my tractor. I have a 5 ft back blade, a 5 ft snowblower, a 5 ft Woods belly mower, and now the loader. This little machine does everything I want, and then asks for more.

E-mail me if you want more info.

There are three levers on the shift column of my 1600. The left is for the PTO. The middle is for the three speeds which are available. The right is for HI/MED/LO. This is the lever that is causing the problems. I need a boot to cover the shifter and the local part houses are crying balk. If anyone has any idea where I can get these boot covers (they all appear to be the same for each of the levers) I sure would appreciate the info. Regards, Frank

From what I understand it was a Ford attempt at a high clearanced cultivation tractor. Late 70's and into the 80's. Diesel about 20 HP. Standard 3pt ( but high ) on the rear and a variety of mid and front cultivators origionally available ( now rare ). My dealer has one floating around and the price was much less than a 2000 but can't recall what he was asking. Book value says about 3000.
Hope this helps.

West Coast Prices seem much higher. Paid $7750 for a Exicilent condition 1600 4X4 with loader back blade disk and mower. It also had 800 hr. when the meter stoped. Very powerfull and easy to run.

Ross, for what it's worth, I spent $2800 (including auction commission) for a 1600 today in western NY. That's with fresh (slightly streaky) paint, 800 hours, a cheesy oxyactylene weld on one of the fenders (otherwise excellent sheet metal), good rear tires, fair front tires, and no implements. I've heard of others paying a bit more. The three point hitch didn't strike me as particularly high, except maybe in proportion to the tractor, which is on the small side, but Dick probably has more experience with tractors than I do (this is my first). The tractor had wheel and front weights on it, but I don't know yet if they were standard or add-ons for someone who liked to pull. Like you, I had a difficult time finding information. According to what I've seen elsewhere, 23 hp are available at the PTO. I'm not sure about hp at the draw. Hope this helps.
