3000 Fuel Leak

1st I'd like to thank those who helped guide me through my first tractor purchase. I think the info gained here gave me additional bargaining power and saved me a $1,000.

Now that I'm the proud owner of a '65 3000 I notice that I have a slight fuel leak. I have a diesel engine that has 2 fuel filters. The fuel seems to ooze up from the bottom cap on the filters. The front one more so than the rear. I pulled out a shop manual that the previous owner had. It refers to draining moisture every 50 hours by removing the drain caps and letting the fuel run until clear. I did this just for the sake of trying something. The rear filter dripped a steady stream while the front filter dripped hardly at all. Is that normal. Should I look into replacing the filters? Any comments appreciated.

Probably a bunch of crud accumulated on the bottom of the front bowl. Definitely replace the filters and clean out the bowls at the same time. Remove the drain plugs and make sure there is no crud in the grooves in the screws.

BINGO! Your suggestion worked great. It was a little tricky bleeding the system the 1st time, but now that I have done it, no problem.

Thanks for the help.
