I'm looking at a neighbor's '56 860. I like the idea of the additional hp, and the live PTO and hydraulics. I ran a compression check on the engine and came up with 125psi on all cylinders. I was pretty pleased with it, until I checked my Ford shop manual and it stated that 205hp was new "spec." A buddy of mine, whose opinion I respect, told me he thought that 150psi was spec on early 172ci engines and that 125psi all around was good in his opinion. I was hoping that some of you folks who have experience with this model could offer me some advice to confirm or refute.

Thanks in advance for any advice or wisdom....Ed

I'm very happy with my '56 860. I previously used my late grandfather's 1952 8N, and the 860 is a lot more tractor. I just wish it had a creeper gear in reverse so I didn't have to slip the clutch when using my snow blower.

I think you are OK at 125 PSI if you are cranking it with the starter. The specification table does list the pressure at 205 PSI, but that is supposed to apply when the engine is warmed up and running at 1000 RPM.
