I just completed replacing pistons/pins, rings, rod bearings and a valve job on a 1984 F1900 tractor - 3 cylinder diesel. The problem I am having is that once the engine is warm it blows a solid stream of oil out the road draft tube from the valve cover. Anyone have a solution?? This is the reason I overhauled the engine to begin with. Desperate Sierra Foothill winery mechanic appreciates a quick resonse!!!

Did you ever get this issue resolved?? I loaned out my 1900 (first mistake) to someone I assumed knew a little about engines (second mistake) who I assumed would check the fluid levels prior to using the tractor (the last mistake). Basically it overheated due to a coolant leak and they put cold water into the radiator. I thought it might be a cracked head or block. it is exhibiting the same issue you are trying to resolve.

Thanks in advance.

Sam has a good idea, run it briefly with the valve cover off to see where this stuff is coming from. Possibly like he said, you are missing a plug somewhere up top. Suspect this if you have low oil pressure.

Only two other things come to mind. Either you have a missing baffle on the underside of the valve cover, or you have A LOT of blowby!

wow -- almost sounds like you are missing the plug - if there is one on the end of the rocker pivot shaft-- or maybe it isn't sealed correctly. when the engine gets worm the oil gets thin enough to spray to the road draft tube. does this make sence? just talking out of my you know where. other wise maybe your oil returns are pluged.-- hard to belive

anybody else have any ideas -- have you run it with the valve cover off?
