3000 Diesel starting problem

Is there a simple test that would show if I'm getting enough fuel to the injectors? My 67 3000 died last winter. After new rings and a valve job, it has become difficult to start and bogs down under heavy load.I have changed the fuel filter and cleaned the tank and screen and had the injectors rebuilt. No change. It seems to me like a problem with the fuel pump. Any suggestions. >

What type of injection pump do you have? Inline (injection lines come straight out the top), or the rotary (injection lines come out at all different angles?

If it is the inline, it sounds like your cold start button is stuck to me. This happens on pumps that don't have oil changed in them regularly.

It's an inline pump. And yes, the button doesn't move in or out. I never knew it existed until I started having this problem. How can I unstick it? Thanks

Take the rubber boot off and squirt some penetrating oil inside it and around it while you work the button in and out. Grab the thing with a vise grips to move it in and out. Also work the kill lever back and forth while you do this. You want to get it to the point where it will snap in placed when pressed in (throttle at least half way back and kill lever in the run position), and snap itself out when you move the kill lever to the off position.

After you get it freed up, change the oil in the pump frequently for awhile, then at every engine oil change.
