I have an opportunity to buy a Davis 3 pt. backhoe to put on
my 860. I have never used one, and wonder if it is too much weight
or strain for the tractor. I also wonder how much I should expect to pay for it (assuming it is in working order). I would appreciate
any comments on 3 pt. backhoes in general and the Davis backhoe
specifically. My initial use would be to dig shallow trenches for
tile, but I would eventually like to excavate for a footing for a
house.

Thanks,
Bill

Don't know about Davis backhoes. I have a Kelly B30 model on my 3000. It is sized about right--8'digging depth and 12" bucket. I used a pto hydraulic pump as the tractor unit is a little small. It is a bit of a strain but has held up ok--during 700 hours of general purpose digging--I wouldn't want to go any bigger unit. Hope it helps.

Did you buy the backhole attachment?
I have one that I use on my 600 series Ford.
It is all my tractor can do to move it around, but have used it a lot when your useing the
backhole part it basicly suports itself and not strain on the tractor.
Hope this helps
Gary
