3000 Wobbles

I took my 3000 out on a paved road for the 1st time this weekend. I went about 3 miles with no problem. When I reached my destination I noticed the right front tire was pretty low so I filled the tire with air. On the way home, on 3 diffrent occasions both front tires would wobble wildly until I reduced speed. The first two times I was going down a slight incline, the 3rd going slightly uphill. I was in 7th gear at about 1400-1500 rpm's. Could having a low tire have prevented a normal occurence or is this a sign of other problems.

TIA

your tractor should run just fine down the road as long as every thing is relitivly tight like bern said. Its not like the thing can go that fast. after you check to see that everything is tight make sure you have toe in. make sure the distance between the front of the front tires is less that the distance between the back of the front tires. < that is toe in - if they are toe out then it will stear poorly. I dont know what the diferance should be maybe 1/4 inch or so. maybe sombody has an idea on the distance

One other thing should be considered here is that a tractor isn't really meant to be going very fast there for there is no caster tilt to the front end...at least I wouldn't think so. A partialy flat tire would give some drag causing there to be some caster.
Just a thought....

Typical 3000 problem. Too many steering joints and no way to grease them. Jack up the front end so the front wheels are off the ground and move the tires around while watching the linkage to see where your play is.

I would suppose a low tire might mask this problem as it is always trying to pull to one side thereby keeping the slack in the steering tight.

Craig, Have you checked those wheel bearings in a while? Last time mine was in wobble mode I pulled the wheels off and found I had to remove my bearings in pieces before replaceing them.
Just a thought.

This is sometimes a problem on cars and trucks that have been lifted. They often correct it by putting a gas-shockabsorber between the linkage and the frame. I don't really know where it goes on the linkage but I would guess at the ball joint? I also suppose you would need power steering in this case to push the shock around.

Good Luck

Kim
