My 8N hydralics are not as peppy as they were 15 years ago, and they drop when I push the clutch in, if I have a lot of weight on. I am thinking that maybe new rings on the piston, or a pump rebuild may be in order. I have heard some talk of O rings on the pison in place of iron rings. What is the opinion on this? Any other tips? What about oil? The oil in there is pretty old, and should be replaced, but what is best to put in?

You will get more responses on the N board, but I will give it a go.

Remove the right side inspection plate, where the dip stick is. Lift the 3. with a load on it. If oil is gushing down from the top, new rings are in order. If the oil shows a lot of turbulence, pump work will be needed. If you replace the rings, I have heard they can be replaced with the piston and rubber rings from an NAA.

The best oil depends on were you live. cold climates = 134 from NH
warmer climates = 90 wt gear oil

Try surching the archives on the N board, this is a FAQ.

Thank you, that was good information. I will check it as you say. Can you give me the URL for the 8N board? I was not aware there was one.
