We have a 1954 NAA Ford with hydralics.Almost fully restored. Once we shut the tractor off we have to bleed the hydralic line in order to get the 3 point to lift again. This has become a real pain in the butt. The Ford dealer has quoted us a price of $1800 for a new pump. What other remedies are there?

Be sure their is no leak on the intake side of the pump.At the pump or at any point along the tube.(big one).
Did you replace the seal? This is really the most important thing in pump repair. If the pump seal is leaking it will only suck in air by the seal and will never work even if it is primed or bled.
To replace the seal the roller bearing race must be removed first before the seal will come out.The best way to get this race out of the pump is to weld a bead all the way around the race on the surface where the rollers run. This will render the race ruined. It will then come out eaisly after it has cooled to room temp.
You should also replace the Needle bearing while it is apart as it is just as important as the roller bearing.

If you have'nt already gone and looked, go over to the Vintage Ford Tractor Resoures site. Go over to the bottom left of this page and follow the links to Ford and then to Vintage Ford.
I don't think you have a pump problem. It sounds more like the one of the valves are stuck or the pump is sucking up air. Usually on these old Fords if a pump is out it is out, and priming it back don't help. Besides $1800 is about $1200 to high for a complete rebuild on the hydraulics with or without the pump..
I think you can see and understand the NAA system better if you look at the Vintage pictures.

If it has a piston pump, it probably can be rebuilt to correct your problem. The shaft seal is the usual culprit, but there are other gaskets & seals, as well as the ball checks & seats that may need renewing while it is apart. I would guess about 25% of your new pump quote will go a long ways toward a rebuild. You may have a vane-style pump, though, and I have no experience with them.

Junk the vane and buy a piston pump.
