Can anyone else help with advice on how to get the suction line and screen filter out? See my earlier messge and dialog with Paul for details.

Thanks.

Neil,

I think I don't have good news. My $60+ "Offical" Ford service manual set says nothing about the filter. Niether does my I&T Ford shop manual for
2000/3000/4000's (FO-31). BUT my Ford 2000/3000
owners manual has in the Lubrication and Maintenance
Chart the following for "every 2400 hours";

HYDRAULIC FILTERS - Change return filter and clean
suction filter (by dealer only).

The "by dealer only" is the rub!! I bought my 3000
(for all intents and purposes the same as your 2000)
about 12 years ago and had to go all thru it. As I
remember getting the suction filter out was a BEAR!
Pretty sure you have to REMOVE the shaft that the
pedals hinge on to get the filter and pipe out.
Even then I seem to remember that you had to twist
and turn just the right way to get it out. In my
case I was replacing the shaft anyway because it
was so worn.

Good luck! let me know how you do.
Regards, Larry

Larry,

I'd like to check the hydraulic pump by sucking dirrectly from a bucket of hydraulic oil. Any suggestions on how to connect this up. I have the I&T manual but not the Ford original. Does it have anything on removing the external line from the pump to the rear axle housing?

Neil,

This sounds like the same song and dance, "I think I don't have good news."

I just got a 2110 which has the suction and pressure lines smashed under the foot board - leaks under high pressure!
So I am in the process of replacing it. To get it off you have to remove the foot rest AND the
stearing arm on the right side - that's the rub!! - it's stuck on and I haven't gotten it off yet!
I don't think you can take the lines loose at the rear housing and do anything there. The lines
end in a casting that is cast around the pipes. The casting then has O-rings to seal against the rear housing. I don't know how you could duplicate that seal to test. You have the same seal situation at the pump end.

I just looked back and found you have a '68 2000. that may help since some where along about then
Ford changed to some kind of what looks like a compression fiting on the lines. If that is what you have then you may be able to get the ends loose on just the suction line, move it out of the
way and replace it with a "new" pipe to go into the suction side. You could then use a rubber
suction type hose to go into the "bucket to supply oil. Either way I'm sure you'll have to remove
the foot rest, etc to get at the rear end. Pump end is not going to be easy either! :-)

I was gone for several days so that is why I didn't get back to you.
Check your situation and let me know - I can look at my "stuff" and tractor
this weekend and report back.
Regards, Larry

You're right, this does not sound like good news. But it sounds right. I had the tube free, unbolted from case, but could not figure out a way to twist and turn it to get it out.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to make sure this is the problem before I get in there and follow your suggestions.
