Guys, Here is a cut & paste from a post above. Again, the serial and model #'s are the key.Check out the values on this site also. /***********************************************/ The "801 Powermaster" was a series of tractors made from 1958 thru 1961. The actual model designation depended on the options it had. Example an 861 had 5 speeds, live PTO, hydraulics, 172 ci "Red Tiger" gas, diesel, or LP engine, adjustable front, utility model. The 871 was similar, except it had the Select-O-Speed tranny. The 881 was similar to the 871, except had 2 speed PTO and ground speed PTO. Others, such as the 821 didn't have PTO or Hydraulics and were for industrial use. In 1962, the "Hundred Series" (601 Workmaster and 801 Powermaster) were dropped for the early "Thousand Series", which didn't change things much. The 801/901 series became the 4000, and the 501/601/701 became the 2000 series. In 1965, whe whole ball game changed as the 3 cyl "Thousand Series" blue Fords we see NH make today were introduced. Totally different machine. Your serial number is the key to what you have, assuming someone hasn't sold you a "Frankenstein", which might not be too bad either. Look on the left side on the bell housing just above where the started bolts on and you will find a flat spot with 2 numbers stamped. The top number is the model number and the bottom number is the serial #. If this machine was made in 1964, it will have a 5 digit model number, and will be either a 4000 or 2000. If not, it will say 8x1 and it was made prior to 1962. Ford did not raise the 801 series after 1961. This is a very brief summary, and it came from here: Link
