I been looking at tractor in the papers and at dealers through out the years. And I seen (Example) Ford 600 $3500 -Ford 871 sos $2750 -Ford 861 $4000 .Them adds tells a person somthing Selecto speeds have no value among people cause they are junk.Personally for $3000 If I had the pick of a Naa or a 871 sos Id take the Naa any day.Righ now my grampa has a 861 up for sale it burns a just a little oil. He wants $3500 for it Its up for grabs if ur interested Dana.

800 series is a real workhorse but the SOS is a problem. I've got an 850 and paid $2600 and wouldn't hesitate to buy again for more money.
Keep looking, it's tough, but the right one will pop up!

I've heard horror stories about the SOS. I personally wouldn't pay this for a machine with a SOS, especially since I am not a full time mechanic. "Time bomb" is correct - and an expensive one!

I would look farther. Plenty of 841's, 851's and 861's out there. I would rather have a rusted, smoking, ragged looking 861 than a new 871.

Just my opinion.

Some say the SOS trans is a time bomb...only a matter of time. Others say it's fine as long as it gets MAINTENANCE regularly. I got my 850 (5 speed) for $2500, runs great, tin is lumpy. I felt I got a steal.

Dana sounds fair to me as long as it runs decent
and doesn't smoke or make to much noise.I'd be a
little wary of any select O speed though.
