Ford 3000 Lift Questions

A friend of mine has a '67 Ford 3000 gas tractor. He is having two problems with the tractor.

First, if he pick-up the lift with a 5' bush-hog attached and then lets it back down to position, the lift slowly lowers. Not sure from his description if the hydraulics are letting it go down or if the lift lever is slowly lowering itself. If it's the hydraulics, what should be done to trouble-shoot/fix it? Same with the left lever.

Secondly, if he raises the lift to high, the pto shaft bottoms out on the deck of the bush hog. Is there a way to limit the lift at the top end? Or does he need a different length top link or something else?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

My thoughts, there is a friction disk on the quadrant control to keep it from "falling" down, thus moving the attachment down, that is if the deck is lowering while mowing. Pressure holds it up and gravity pulls it down.

Two: I use a little clamp, the original stops are missing, to keep the mower deck from coming up to high and contacting the PTO shaft (been there, done that).

Check the Hydraulic adjustment lever under the seat, it may be out of adjustment and letting the lift arms lower all the way. Check the draft control, if theses are OK, Hydraulic pump seals could be leaking and letting fluid pass the ram and letting the equipment drop.

Re adjust the centerlink on the tractor/bushhog so that centerlink is a little shorter, (raising the rear of the bushog alittle) This may give you enough room so that the PTO shaft doesn't hit the Bushhog deck when lifting it up.

Where in VA are you located. I am south of Richmond in Chesterfield County.

Hope this helps, Charlie
