3000 clutch

I'm working on a 1965 Ford 3000 double clutch. The manual says that the transmission clutch with full circle lining should be installed with the long hub rearward. The center of my disc is extended on one side and has a hub extension on the other side with with 4 tension springs. When it came out the spring side was to the rear. Since one side was worn a lot worse than the other, I want to make sure that someone hasn't reversed the clutch disc.

I'm looking in my book, and I am now confused as well. It says that cerametallic discs go one way (hub towards flywheel), and organic discs go the other (hub towards pressure plate). I had always thought that the big hubs on those discs went towards the flywheel. Take your disc and lay it on top of the pressure plate. Try both ways and see if there is any contact between parts. Then do the same on the flywheel. For some reason, I have a hunch that if it clears both ways, it will not make a big difference which way you install it. Certainly, it would not make a difference from a wear standpoint. The only things you are concerned about is that the hub does not interefere with anything, and that the splines are completely inserted into the hub on the disc when put together.

Thanks for the info. I got several different answers so I went to the dealer and his books didn't show any more than mine. The new clutches are marked, so he checked one. The hub with the springs go toward the flywheel and the smaller extended hub goes to the rear. The new clutch didn't have an extension on the rear.
