I have a New Holland 1920. PTO HP is 28.5. I am wanting to acquire some used equipment for haying (at a minimum expense). How do I know if my tractor has sufficient HP to handle a particular baler, haybine, or mower/conditioner? Is there particular equipment I should be looking for? I am looking to put up about 1000 bales per year.

Steve: A friend I farm with uses a 1910 4wd for hay production. Your tractors HP is fine to run a 7' sickle bar mower or mower /conditioner, a 2 basket tedder, side delivery rake and a smaller baler {we use a 268 NH} w/o thrower. You did not say if your 1920 was 4wd or not. I makes a big difference in the ease in which your unit can handle haying equipment The weight of these compacts are low so becareful as the weight of some of these implements are close to that of the tractor. Stay away form side hills, steep down hills, disk mowers and bale throwers you should make out fine. Stay Safe. Hope this helps. Roy
