I have a Ford 4610 that starts to miss when it reaches normal operating temp and is running over 1400 RPM. I has about 1800 hours on it. I have put the last 400 on it. The miss has seemed to progressivley become worse over the past few months. Yesteday it sarted to reached the point of running very rough instead of a noticable miss. Filters have been replaced and it is not overheating.

Does anyone have any ideas that do not requre the dealership?

Any help would be appreciated.

David You might take a moment and check the fuel shut-off valve in the bottom of your tank for a obstruction. Thread the line off and check for a good steady flow anything less and you may haue a plugged screen or valve. If so drain the tank remove the valve and clean it out. This is a pretty simple fix but it had me thinking I need pump work a few years back. Good luck. Roy

There is a additional filter in the back-end of
the injection pump that can also cause this trouble.
Remove the top of this back (wrench 15/16) pull
the spring out and then the filter is visable.
Cleaning it may be a solution.

Assuming it's a diesel, my hunch is that the automatic advance mechanism inside the injection pump is not working properly. Easiest way to confirm this is to manually advance the pump and see if the problem goes away or at least gets better.

To advance the pump, loosen the 3 attaching bolts a quarter turn or so, and rotate the pump so that the top of it is pulled toward you. This will advance the timing. There are degree markings on the timing plate, and a reference scribe mark on the pump flange. Note where these marks are before you do anything, they should be at or near zero. Try advancing it to around 4 degrees or so, and see if that helps. If it does, the advance mechanism in the pump is for whatever reason not advancing. May require removing the pump and sending out for repair.
