If it's a manual tranny, sounds like the clutch disc is stuck to the flywheel. Get it rolling in gear (preferably a higher one), step on the clutch and STOMP on the brakes! Be careful, this can be dangerous!

Bob, is this a Selectospeed with the shifter just below the steering wheel or a standard transmission with a conventional clutch? If it is a Selectospeed you might want to start out with a fluid and filter change.

If it is a conventional transmission, you would want to check out your pedal free play. If it is correct you might have a frozen clutch disc. Sometimes they will rust and stick to the flywheel and pressure plate. Some on this forum have reported good results with shocking the drive train or putting heavy loads on it while HOLDING THE PEDAL IN, to break free the rust.

If it's a manual tranny, you may have a damaged pressure plate. The clutch arm, and linkage rod, are"low" on the tractor, and prone to getting hit, or snagged. The action of pushing the lever back too far can happen from catching a stump, or root, or could happen because of the linkage rod being bent. Both will "over activate" the clutch fork, which in turn can bend the fingers on the pressure plate. I've done both, so this is the voice of experience. A new pressure plate is the only cure, if this is what's happened.
